How soon should a child start learning tennis?
There is no science based answer here. But most coaches agree that about 7 or 8 years of age is a good time. Earlier than this, then the lessons become more focused on developing balance, hand-eye coordination, and body awareness than tennis technique.

What’s the difference between group and private lessons?
Group lessons help provide the community aspect of learning tennis. In our group lessons we teach sportsmanship and teamwork as well as good technique. And sometimes it's just more fun learning and playing with others. At XCL Tennis, we limit our group sizes to four players. The larger a group gets, the less actual playing time and instruction an individual receives.
Individual lessons are where you get the most bang for your buck. What we can accomplish in a few months of private lessons may take a year of group lessons to reach the same level. However, for our more serious students, we encourage them to do both. Not only to create a balance between individual training and practicing in a group context, but also to become part of a community of players and potentially creating lasting friendships.
